My Story

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) in the Greater Cleveland area.  I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities from Ursuline College and my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy/Counseling at the University of Akron. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, my counseling experience includes work with individuals of all ages, couples, families and groups.

My personal experience includes marriage, parenting, separation and divorce. I know first-hand the profound pain and loss that the whole family suffers when a marriage ends. My ex-husband and I tried couples counseling multiple times, working with skilled and compassionate therapists, but were unable to reconnect. What Sue Johnson, the founder of EFT, calls the "“road map” to couples counseling wasn’t there yet to help us. Efforts to help us change how we communicated and behaved were not enough when what we desperately needed was help in healing and restoring the loving bonds that had once bound us firmly together.

I moved on without regrets and a good relationship with my ex-husband but I did wonder at times: “The love was there, so why couldn’t we be helped in couples therapy? Why was it so hard for us to return to the loving connection we had once shared?”

I found the answer in graduate school, watching a training video with Sue Johnson in an EFT session with a couple. Enacted before me, I saw the type of therapy I had only dreamed of all those years my ex-husband and I were in therapy together. It was a method of therapy that I knew could have helped us to reconnect, forgive, and develop new healthy patterns to sustain our relationship.

Witnessing the EFT model in action was like a piece of the puzzle had snapped into place. I knew that I had found my “home” as a therapist and decided to become a Certified EFT couples therapist and make this effective therapy available in the Greater Cleveland area. I have completed extensive professional training in EFT and am now in the final stage of the EFT certification process.

EFT has given me the tools to help other couples to reconnect, repair, and develop healthy and secure emotional connections in their relationships. Ultimately, my path and experience gives me profound empathy for the pain and distress of the couples coming in to therapy and the certainty that EFT is their best hope for a successful outcome.
